PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)

PRP, or Platelet Rich Plasma has been used for years in orthopaedic medicine, dentistry and in reconstructive surgery.  Now the benefits of PRP are being applied in dermatology to promote wound healing, facial rejuvenation and hair loss.  PRP treatments help to stimulate tissue regeneration, cell growth and collagen production using growth factors and signalling molecules found in your body’s own platelets and blood plasma. PRP is 100% natural and uses no preservatives or synthetic additives.

HOW IT WORKS

Your blood is drawn using a small butterfly needle and syringe.  The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from red blood cells.  Once separated, the plasma can be injected or applied topically to treatment areas.  PRP has been shown to stimulate collagen and hyaluronic acid production.  As an injectable treatment it and can help to improve fine lines and restore thinning hair in both men and women.  As a topical treatment with Halo or micro-needling it can help reduce downtime, speed recovery and improve skin texture.

Preparing for your treatment

Patients should increase fluid intake the day before treatment by drinking a minimum of eight 8oz glasses of water.  Blood thinning agents such as Asprin, Ibuprofin (Advil, Motrin etc) and vitamin E, fish oils, garlic, green tea and alcohol should be avoided for one week prior to procedure for best results.  Coffee should be replaced with water on the morning of your procedure to promote maximum hydration.
