Micro-needling
Medical micro-needling is a non-ablative treatment that targets deeper layers of the skin without damaging the outer layers. The procedure involves puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles which create a controlled injury under the skin’s surface, triggering the formation of new collagen and elastin fibres and leading to an improvement in skin texture. Micro-needling is often recommended to treat acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin and scars from burns.
HOW IT WORKS
Skin is cleansed and a numbing cream is applied. A small hand held rolling device, or an automated micro-needling pen, or stamp with tiny, closely spaced needles is applied to the skin in a rolling or circular manner. Following treatment a lightweight, oil free serum is applied. Skin will be pink with a mild, sunburn-like appearance for 1 – 2 days. Treatments can be repeated as often as required with a minimum of 6 – 8 weeks in between.
