During laser hair removal, rays of light energy are directed to hair follicles. The energy targets pigment in the follicle, causing it to lose its ability to grow new hair. The best candidates are those with darker hair – white, grey and red hair is less responsive to the laser energy. Treatment is effective on even the deepest follicles on any part of the body. Areas commonly treated are underarms, face, and the bikini area, as well as larger areas such as legs and backs.
Since only follicles in the active growth phase are targeted, most patients require a series of treatments. Depending on the area being treated, we recommend between four and six sessions one to two months apart for optimal results.
Preparing for your treatment
Patients should avoid sun exposure, self-tanners, waxing or plucking of areas to be treated for a minimum of six weeks prior to treatment. Regular shaving is permitted. On the day of treatment areas should be shaved and free of antiperspirants, creams or cosmetics.
