Botox® for Chronic Migraine

Botox® has been shown to significantly improve quality of life for patients suffering from Chronic Migraine headaches.  It is approved by the FDA and Health Canada to prevent headaches in adults with Chronic Migraine who experience severe headaches 15 or more days per month.  It you suffer from Chronic Migraine headaches your doctor may have recommended Botox® as a preventative treatment option.  Botox® for Chronic Migraine requires treatment by a qualified professional, and as experts in the use of Botox®, Dr. Muhn and Dr. Rosen are certified in administering these specialized treatments.

Botox® is a purified protein used to relax muscles. For Chronic Migraine it is administered through a series of tiny injections with a fine needle into the specific head and neck muscles thought to contribute to headache symptoms. No anaesthetic is required and most patients report very little discomfort. Relief can begin within days and full improvement is generally seen within two weeks.  Treatments must be repeated at regular three month intervals to maintain results.

Botox® treatments for Chronic Migraine are not covered by OHIP, however private insurance may cover all or a portion of the treatment.

A referral from your family doctor or neurologist will be required to initiate treatment.
