Redness and Rosacea

Redness and rosacea are common skin conditions that are often related.  Persistent redness or flushing on the cheeks, forehead and chin is usually early or mild rosacea.  In moderate rosacea redness can be more pronounced or even permanent.  Blood vessels on the face may become larger and more visible and small pimple-like bumps may appear.  In advanced rosacea inflammation is severe and may even lead to a disfiguring condition known as rhinophyma.  Rosacea is more common in women but men can also be affected.  It is most common in patients with fair skin and those with a history of easy blushing or flushing.

HOW WE TREAT IT

Rosacea can’t be cured, but there are many ways it can be managed or controlled.  Limiting sun exposure and daily use of high quality, physical block sunscreen is essential.  Avoiding triggers like, wind and extreme heat or cold, spicy foods and alcohol can sometimes reduce symptoms, but for chronic redness regular laser treatments that may include Vascular LasersIPL or Laser Genesis combined with medical grade skincare specifically designed to combat redness offer best results.  Moderate and severe cases often require prescription medication and a referral from your family doctor would be required.
