Botox® for Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is clinically defined as excessive, uncontrollable sweating that is not directly related to high temperature or exercise.  It occurs in men and women and most commonly affects underarms, hands, feet, face and scalp.  The cause is a mystery, but what is understood is the nerves that control the sweat glands become overactive. Hyperhidrosis can severely impact quality of life by causing social anxiety and embarrassment, and for patients suffering from this condition, finding an effective solution can be life altering.  Botox® has been shown to significantly improve quality of life for patients suffering from Hyperhidrosis.   It requires treatment by a qualified professional, and as experts in the use of Botox®, Dr. Muhn and Dr. Rosen are certified in administering these specialized treatments.

Botox® is a purified protein that interrupts the signal from the nerves to the sweat glands.  It is administered through a series of tiny injections with a fine needle under the skin affected areas. No anaesthetic is required and most patients report very little discomfort.  Reduction of sweating in treated areas is generally seen within two weeks.  Treatments   can last up to six months and should be repeated at regular intervals to maintain results.

Botox® treatments for Hyperhidrosis are not covered by OHIP, however private insurance may cover all or a portion of the treatment.

A referral from your family doctor will be required to initiate treatment.
