When considering laser treatments it is important to choose your treatment provider carefully. In the wrong hands laser treatments can result in burns, blisters and permanent scarring and pigmentation. Laser resurfacing is an art form which, when performed by a skilled physician, can provide outstanding results. Depending on the type of skin and the level of correction required, there are several different types of laser resurfacing treatments available:

Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Commonly referred to as Fraxel®, this treatment targets only a portion of the skin surface without peeling the top layer of skin. It can provide excellent results for acne scarring, fine lines and can improve skin texture and collagen production. It requires little or no down time. Patients may experience mild redness and swelling for a day or two and can usually resume normal activities after one day.

Pro-Fractional Laser Resurfacing

Deeper lines, more severe textural changes, altered pigmentation and mild skin laxity (looseness) often benefit from Pro-fractional laser resurfacing. This technology delivers fractional micro-beams of light into the skin while peeling the superficial or top layers of the skin. Patients experience some redness, swelling and crusting of the skin but can expect to resume normal activities after two or three days.

Full Laser Resurfacing

For patients requiring the most corrective treatment, full laser resurfacing can deliver excellent results. It precisely removes the superficial layers of the skin and heats deeper skin tissue, resulting in healthy, smooth younger looking skin. Patients can expect approximately one to two weeks recovery time.
